Balance & Swing

The world we live in is quite interesting.

What is even more interesting is seeing the world that our grandparents used to live in and seeing how things are now.

What’s even crazier is thinking about what the world our kids will live in will look like.

You see, there are times when the poop hits the fan. When it does, we tend to swing the other way to correct it. The problem with that swing is that it causes a problem of a different kind to hit the other fan.

So once again we find ourselves self correcting to avoid the problems therein.

We end up spending out entire lives swinging from one side to the other trying to avoid these problems, never quite finding the rest we need because we are so busy avoiding the problems that we’ve created.

How do we avoid this then?

Learn to find balance.

Now most people think of balance as everything being stable and steady and sturdy. Unwavering. Unmoving. Tranquil.

Really though, balance requires constant movement.

Think of a see-saw. It’s never quite perfectly balanced. There’s always going to be movement. One end will be higher than the other.

But look long enough and you’ll see it’s about the small movements.

Life is the same way. It’s never quite stable or sturdy. There’s always going to be a little movement here or there. The point is to learn how to make the minor adjustments along the way that’ll align us with our course.

Don’t fret the hiccups. Don’t cry about the misdirections.

Learn to love the journey. Live to learn the lessons.
